turn out と turn into
turn out は「〜だと判明する・結果として〜になる」、turn into は「（別のものに）変化する」。結果を述べるか変身を述べるかの違いです。
判明するか、変身するか
turn out と turn into はどちらも「結果として〜になる」という訳になりがちですが、視点がまったく異なります。turn out はもともとの正体・結果が明らかになること、turn into は別のものへ姿を変えることを表します。

turn out の使い分け
turn out の中心は「隠れていた真実・結果が明らかになる」ことです。"It turned out that he had been lying all along." のようにit turned out (that) ...の形や、"The plan turned out to be a disaster." のようにturn out to be ...の形が定型です。また「（人が）ある場所に集まる」という意味もあり、名詞形 turnout（来場者数・投票率）としてニュースで頻出します。
turn into の使い分け
turn into は「AがBという別のものに変わる」という変身・変化を表します。"The caterpillar will turn into a butterfly." が典型例で、比喩的にも「（状況が）〜になってしまう」（a quiet evening turned into a huge argument）のように使われます。
使い分けの手がかり
turn out は「結果として明らかになる」という視点で、to be／that節を伴うことが多く、主語の性質そのものが変わるわけではありません。turn into は「別の実体に置き換わる」という視点で、主語は最終的に元の姿を失います。「判明した」のか「変わり果てた」のかで区別すると迷いません。
なぜ直訳で読み解けないか
out は「隠れていたものが外部に公然と現れる」イメージなので、turn out はそれまで分からなかった結果や正体が表に出ることを表します。into は「別の状態の内部へ入り込む」イメージなので、turn into は主語がB（別の状態）の中へすっぽり入れ替わることを表します。
よくある誤用
The caterpillar turned out a butterfly.（誤）。姿を変えたのは turn into。turn out に「変身する」の意味はありません。It turned into that he was right all along.（誤）。判明したのは turn out（it turned out that ...）。turn into は that節をとりません。まとめ
